On October 24, Michael Jackson fans hope to set a new Guiness World Record for the most people to dance simultaneously to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the famous synchronized zombie dance
At 5:30 p.m. on October 24 (Pacific Standard Time), thousands of Michael Jackson fans all over the world, dressed accordingly, will assume position and pay tribute to the late King of Pop. Michael Jackson fans will dance Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the famous synchronized zombie dance.
Michael Jackson fans will attempt to set the world record for the most people to dance simultaneously to “Thriller,” which stood at 4,179 people in 72 cities, across 10 countries (including Saudi Arabia) until 13,597 people in Mexico City set a record in August. The Guinness world record for people doing any kind of simultaneous dance was set in 2002 across Canada, where 200,000 children did the Hokey-Pokey.
Kelley, the “Thriller” organizer in Oakland, says, “This one may be bigger.” The goal is to time the dance at various spots in 300 cities around the world. Participants must register for the record to be official.
Michael Jackson’s Thriller Dance Record
The annual setting of the “Thriller” dance record began in 2006 when 62 people in Toronto got together to stagger, swivel and swing their claws in unison. From there, organizers went global, officially dubbing the movement “Thrill the World.” The next year, Thrill the World included 1,722 dancers in 52 cities on five continents.
